Primate babies are in abundance at YOUR San Antonio Zoo! Watch for the black mangabey babies as they learn to climb, groom, and mimic Mom! A short walk across the path takes you to the gibbon habitat. Look for Dad, the one with black fur, he keeps a close eye on the exhibit perimeter and might even come down to the glass. To find the baby, look for the blonde, that’s Mom. The baby is also blonde and is usually hanging tight to Mom. Next door in the langur exhibit, look for a bit of burnt orange on an otherwise black monkey. The orange is actually the baby langur born in mid November.
To see even more babies, step into the
Reptile House, and check out the baby
tomistoma (crocodilians). Located near
the elephant exhibit are two dama gazelle
babies. Look closely, these antelope like to
lie still in the corner towards the front of
the exhibit. Last year’s flamingo babies can now be seen in the water exhibits
near Fun Farm. From threatened to critically endangered, most of these babies
represent important conservation and research achievements.
