Think September is a little late in the year for a parade? Not at the San Antonio Zoo!
Every year, once our baby flamingos are old enough to mingle with adult flamingos, they make a short and wonderful journey. Starting at the Brooder, where they have lived since they were just a few hours old, the babies make their way to the Well, our waterfowl area near the Hixon birdhouse.
With wings flapping, and honking aplenty, the flamingo parade snakes its way past the Parrot House and Lory Landing at least once a year. This year, as a result of our record-breaking success with breeding flamingos, there will be two parades!
The next time you pass the flamingos in the Well, say “hello” to the 24 new “kids” on the block – the graduates of the San Antonio Zoo’s flamingo class of ’09! |
