
Scouting the Zoo
Cost per person: $10/Members, $15/Non-Members
Get help completing your badge while having a great time exploring the Zoo.
Sept. 29 - 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM -
Bears - Sharing your World With Wildlife. Bears will meet three of the four requirements for earning this requirement by visiting the Zoo, building a bird feeder and learning of extinct and endangered animals. Boy scouts will learn of the San Antonio Zoo's conservation efforts with endangered animals as well as experience animal encounters of their own.
Sept. 29 - 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM -
Wolves - Birds - Wolves will point out 10 different birds in the Zoo, learn interesting facts about birds and create a nesting site to take home to complete their requirements. Use of biofacts and animal encounters will enhance learning.
Oct. 6 - 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM -
Tiger Cubs - Learn about Animals and Fun at the Zoo - Tiger scouts will be led on a Zoo adventure focusing on the numerous animal species that call the San Antonio Zoo their home. They will experience animal encounters as well as learning some key differences between mammals, reptiles, birds, and amphibians.
Oct. 6 - 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM -
Webelos - Naturalist - Webelos will work to meet requirements for the Naturalist badge. Boy scouts will learn about the migratory bird paths near San Antonio, identify poisonous plants and venomous reptiles in and around San Antonio, learn the role of producers, consumers and decomposers in a food web as well as experience animal encounters.

Save the last Wednesday of each month for a special informal get-together in the Nature Spot for caregivers

Hey Mom and Dad! I'm growing up and
I'm ready for my own Nature Time. You
can drop me off at the Education Center
of the Zoo and they'll help me GROW WITH
NATURE by showing me cool animals, playing
games out in the Nature Spot, and interacting with other children while we experience nature. The semester of programs will allow me to build relationships and really get an in depth look at nature and the Zoo. From 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon you can run wild without me! Mid-morning snack will be provided. Children are requested not to bring toys and all personal effects should be clearly labeled. Children must be potty trained. Teacher/child ratio will not exceed 1:9.

S.A.fari Kids
Ages 6-10

Come join the wildest club in town - S.A.fari Kids. Each month brings an exciting new topic and time to meet with friends and animals.
Sept. 9 - Spotting Birds - Bring your binoculars or use ours as we learn techniques for bird watching and go out into the Zoo to get a real close look at some native and exotic birds.
Oct. 7 - Nocturnal Animals - Everyone knows bats are nocturnal but did you know hippos are also. Come discover how animals make their living in the dark of the evening.
Noc. 4 - “Scat”ology - Everything produces wastes or scat. Did you know you can tell what an animals has eaten by looking at the scat? Come get the scoop on poop!
Dec. 2 - Headgear - The Zoo is home to an amazing array of animals with very interesting headgear! Are they horns, or antlers - or something else? Come discover fascinating facts about headgear.
Jan. 6 - Big Cats - The Zoo is home to several different "big cats". Do you know which ones they are? Which have "cubs" and which have "kittens"? Which roar and which purr. Come explore the world of big cats.
Feb. 3 - Courtship in the Animal World - Animals have an amazing number of ways to attract a mate and you'll have great fun exploring the dance of the cranes and the tricky ways some creatures find a mate.
