Most children love to go hiking in the woods, skip rocks on a river and camp under the stars. Do your children know how to have fun in nature without getting lost, stung or developing a rash? Join us this summer at the Zoo where children can explore and practice age appropriate nature survival skills like how to identify safe plants and animals, find water and build a shelter. Each day children will learn a skill needed to survive in the wild as well as visit animals to learn how they survive in the deserts, forests, mountains and oceans of the world. At the end of the week your child will have a greater appreciation of what it takes to survive in the wild world and the knowledge to explore that world in a safe and adventurous way.
You drink it, bathe in it, travel on it and love to jump in it when it’s hot outside. Water is the most essential element to life on Earth. Come join us this summer and explore how wildlife from around the world adapts to live with and without water. Learn how an African lungfish can survive in a burrow without water, how much water an elephant drinks daily and how an addax can survive in the barren deserts of northern Africa. We will also conduct age appropriate experiments that illustrate the unique and amazing qualities of water.
Think you want to be a zookeeper? Well here’s your opportunity to go behind the scenes and experience what it’s like to be a real zookeeper! Meet daily with a classroom instructor to discuss the various duties and responsibilities of a zookeeper. Meet with keepers and test newly acquired knowledge and skills by designing animal enrichment items, cleaning exhibits, participating in training, recording vital animal health information and much more.
