Everybody Sleeps

Every child hears, “Time for bed!” on a daily basis. Animals have a bedtime too. Find out when different animals go to sleep. For many, it is “lights out,” but others sleep with the lights on! Some animals sleep days, weeks, or even whole seasons! By the end of the week, when you turn in for the night, you’ll know which animals will be resting with you, and which ones will just be getting up to play.

What’s For Dinner?
What is your favorite food? Macaroni and cheese? Pizza? Animals have their favorites too. Which animal is most likely to enjoy a plate of spinach? How about a steak? Would you rather eat a monkey’s dinner or a bear’s dinner? Find out “What’s for Dinner” at the Zoo and then you decide for yourself. Join us as we explore the many types of foods animals eat, and why they eat what they eat.

Entering Grades 2-3 & 4-6

ASI: Animal Scene Investigators
Can you identify an animal just by looking at its tracks and scat? Can you determine what happened at an animal scene with only a few clues? Come ready to perform genuine field work using the same techniques and technology used by real wildlife biologists. At this camp, you will spend the week conducting water tests, examining animal x-rays, studying animal behavior and investigating tracks and scat.

Teaming With Wildlife

The world is getting smaller every day, and animals and people are living closer and closer to each other. It’s more important now than ever for animals and people to get along with each other. Join us and discover how animals and people are very similar in regards to family and community. You will also learn how animals like wild dog, horn bill, colobus monkey and mongoose help each other to survive in the wild. Team up with wildlife this summer and form your own flocks, packs, troops and colonies, and learn how working together can be fun!

Entering Grades 5-7

Zoo Academy – Expedition Earth: Protecting Wildlife
Are you wild about animals, but not sure about what’s being done to protect them? Species all over the world are being threatened by habitat loss, introduced species, pollution, and other factors. This summer go on a virtual expedition around the world, and discover what the San Antonio Zoo is doing to protect endangered species. At this camp, you’ll explore the importance of biodiversity and how to conserve it, global warming, wildlife genetic diversity, and what you can do to make a difference.
