Summer Camp 2011

Want to have a REAL.WILD.SUMMER. of fun? Sign up for Zoo Camp Adventures and spend the week learning all about animals and nature. Age-appropriate games, stories, crafts and animal encounters are part of each camp. We offer week-long camps concentrating on specific topics with creative learning experiences in a positive, nurturing and fun environment.

Registration begins March 1, 2011.

Adventure Camp

Monday – Friday: 9:30 am – 4:00 pm
Zoo Camp Adventures: $200/members; $240/nonmembers
Zoo Academy: $220/members; $265/nonmembers
Tuesday – Friday: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Junior Zoo Crew: $240/members; $300/nonmembers

 

Entering Grades K-1 (Must be 5 years old)

Animal Olympics
Do you think you can sprint faster than a cheetah, long jump farther than a South African sharp-nosed frog or stand on one leg longer than a flamingo? There’s only one way to find out! Come discover how you measure up to the world’s most amazing animal athletes.

Backyards from Around the World
Have you ever wondered what critters live in someone else’s backyard? Take a trip on the wild side this summer and discover what critters live in backyards around the world as well as your own.

 

Entering Grades 2-3 and 4-6

Animal Behavior
Why do gibbons whoop and flamingo move in unison? Explore the many unique behaviors of animals and the importance of behavioral studies to the success of wildlife conservation in the Zoo and in the wild.

Island Getaway

This summer let your child escape on an island getaway to Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii,
Borneo and the Galapagos. Learn about the unique wildlife that inhabits the islands and the importance
of conserving island ecosystems.

 

Entering Grades 5-7

Zoo Academy – Zoo Wildlife Myth Busters
Is an okapi really a cross between a zebra and giraffe? Are komodos truly non-venomous? Could a pirate see as well as a tiger in the dark? Is global warming real? Are we the only threat to the world’s biodiversity? Sharpen your deductive skills as you work with others to search for the truth behind the myths.

 

Entering Grades 7-8

Jr. Zoo Crew

So you want to be a zookeeper? Well here’s your opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Zoo and experience what it’s like to be a real zookeeper! Each day explore with Education staff the various duties and responsibilities of being a zookeeper. Then join a zookeeper to test your newly acquired knowledge and skills.
