Education Liaison - Programs
Starting pay $912.00/Biweekly



Nature of Work

Effective immediately there is an opening for a Education Liaison – Programs (pay grade 9; exempt status: Exempt). The Education Liaison - Programs functions to share information about all conservation education programs to the public with the goal of increasing the number of participants in programs. This includes representing the Zoo at outreaches, conferences, media spots and meetings with individuals and groups. The Education Liaison - Programs will be trained to conduct all programs and assist with programs as needed. A portion of the work week will include covering the receptionist responsibilities at the Education Center. This position reports to the Education Curator - Programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Constantly exhibit an awesome customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
  • Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
  • Create and implement a plan to inform the public of Zoo programs with the goal of increasing program participants. This plan should encompass needs assessment, marketing strategies to be used, means for regular evaluation of progress and communication methods to be incorporated.
  • Meet with groups and individuals to share information about programming and assess program needs of the community. Some local travel required.
  • Be proficient in program presentation, safety and capable of assisting with all program needs.
  • Support the Zoo’s mission of conservation by implementing a comprehensive strategy for appropriate conservation education opportunities. Collaborate with Zoo staff to insure accurate dissemination of information and maximum use of the Zoo’s resources.
  • Provide positive leadership and support for volunteers and other members of the Education Department and Zoo.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions:
  • Greet, assist and direct education guests, callers and volunteers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Coordinate group, school and individual registrations for field trips or regularly scheduled program offerings.
  • Manage registration for education programs including accepting payment, submitting appropriate refund documentations, cash handling and credit card payments.
  • Input data, create reports and maintain computer booking system as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the public in person and by telephone.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects.
  • Proven team player with strong leadership skills, positive outlook and ability to work effectively and diplomatically with diverse groups of people.
  • Extensive knowledge of zoology, ecology, conservation education and marketing.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, education, marketing or related field preferred.
  • Commitment to Conservation
  • Three years experience in environmental science, education or marketing.
