Novelty Clerk (PT) - Novelty
Starting pay $7.25/hour

NATURE OF THE WORK

Effective immediately a Novelty Clerk position is available in the Visitor Services/Novelty Department. The Novelty Clerk has more direct guest contact than any other single group of zoo employees and must constantly exhibit a guest service attitude and an obvious interest in guest assistance. The Novelty Clerk performs tasks related to counter sales, stocking, displaying, cleaning and cash handling. The Novelty Clerk reports to Novelty Section Leaders and the Novelty Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in guest comfort and service.
  • Communicate with the guest in a courteous and tactful manner and assist guests with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the guest - do not wait to be asked.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
  • Assist in the set up of novelty gift shops for daily business.
  • Prepare merchandise order forms and supplies from warehouse for the next day delivery.
  • Work as a cashier as needed, issue receipts to the guest for all transactions.
  • Receive cash and credit cards from the guests in payment for sales.
  • Accurately count and record money and credit card sales at the end of the day.
  • Ensure the gift shops/stroller rental areas are properly stocked and kept clean at all times.
  • Assist the Novelty Section Leaders and Supervisor with any duties required for the safe operation of your assigned work area.
  • Assist the Catering Supervisor with catered events.
  • Assist in the training of any new employee, regarding daily gift shops/stroller area duties.
  • Read and understand the Cash Handing Policy and Procedures
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use various types of electronic cash registers.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Able to constantly demonstrate honesty in day-to-day performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
  • Two years cash register/cash-handling experience in a retail operation.
  • No history of dishonesty, larceny or theft.
