The San Antonio Zoo Celebrates Leap Day
The San Antonio Zoo announces the opening of TOADally - a new amphibian exhibit. TOADally opens on Leap Day, February 29, 2008, with activities taking place, at the exhibit, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Guests will enjoy a frog-calling contest, dressing up like a frog, and many
more educational adventures.
The San Antonio Zoo joins the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) campaign to highlight 2008 as the Year of the Frog, a nation wide conservation effort that addresses the amphibian extinction crisis and aims to engage the public in amphibian conservation efforts. Today, we are experiencing the greatest species conservation challenge in the history of humanity. A third of the world’s 6,000 amphibian species are threatened with extinction – but WE can change that.
TOADally features native and exotic amphibians, and highlights what’s happening with amphibians globally and what the Zoo and YOU can do to help protect these amazing creatures. Below are just a few ways YOU can help the amphibian crisis:
1. Learn and spread the word about the amphibian crisis
2. Enjoy Nature
3. Create frog-friendly backyards
4. Volunteer to study native frogs, toads, & salamanders
5. Save water
6. Don’t pollute
7. Use less energy
8. Adopt-a-frog at YOUR San Antonio Zoo
