LOCAL "LEMURS" TAKE 1ST PLACE
The San Antonio Zoo is proud to announce that our own local "lemurs" took
1st place for Best Float Interpretation in the Texas Cavalier's River Parade
on Monday, April 23, 2007. These dedicated dancers won the $1,000 grand prizefor the San Antonio Zoo!
Our float highlighted the animated feature Madagascar, a movie all about Zoo
animals escaping for the wild. Our own local "lemurs" jammed and danced to
the sounds of our favorite Afro-Caribbean percussion band, the Mwendu
Drummers.
Congratulations goes out to float participants and Zoo employees Cheryl
Martinez (Visitor Services), Julia Valadez (Horticulture), Carlos Torrez
(Birds), and Mari Brown (Birds) for their enthusiasm. We also extend a
special congratulations to our behind-the-scenes costume and art designer,
Felix Saucedo (Maintenance), who created the award-winning costumes and
makeup.
Thank you for showing us you know how to move it, move it!
