Safari Party at the San Antonio Zoo - Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I tell my guests to meet?
Guests should meet outside the Education Center.  We recommend guests arrive about 15 minutes early to assure the party can begin promptly at 1:00.  Keep in mind that on busy days parking can be a challenge.

Can we park outside the Education Center?
No, parking spaces outside of the Education Center belong to the Parks Department and are reserved for the pavilions.  It is okay to drop off people and supplies at the Education Center and park in the lot adjacent to the entrance or at the train station.

Who is included in the package admission for 10?
Everyone 12 months and older must be a paying participant.  This includes parents and children.  Wrist bands are required to be in the birthday area and will be presented to the birthday host upon arrival.

If my guests have a zoo pass do they still need a wristband?
Yes.  Zoo passes are good for entrance into the Zoo but not for a program.  If you are a member, your party price was reduced as a benefit of your membership.

What happens if extra people show up?
You will be allowed to purchase a limited number of wristbands the day of your party.  Please keep in mind that we have planned your party based on the number of people you have prepaid for.  Should your walk-in number be greater than 5, the cake slices may be smaller than normal.

When is my final payment due?
Final payment is due 3 days before your party.  You can go on-line and pay the balance or call 734-7184 ext 1501 to make your payment.

What happens if it rains?
Parties go on rain or shine!  Parties will be moved to a covered area.

What happens at a Safari Party?
An Education staff member will lead the children in a few games at the onset of the party.  An small handleable animal will be presented to the group and a touch opportunity may be available depending upon the age of the children and animal being presented.  The children will go into the Zoo for a feeding opportunity at Big Lake or Fun Farm followed by a brief tour.  Cake, ice cream and punch will be served on return to the picnic area.  You will have an additional 45 minutes to open presents and visit with your guests.  We encourage all groups to enjoy the Zoo following their party.

What food is included in the package?
A white cake with white icing with the inscription “Happy Birthday from the San Antonio Zoo” is included.  The cake may be upgraded to an animal design by calling Le Cake and paying the difference in price directly to Le Cake. Vanilla ice cream, red fruit punch and water are provided.

Can we bring in food?
Yes.  Food can be brought into the Zoo for parties.  We do not provide refrigeration so bring coolers.  There are several pizza companies that deliver pizza to the Education center if ordered in advance.  Should you select to have pizza delivered, 1:45 is an ideal time for delivery of the pizza.

What party decorations are provided?
Animal print tablecloths, table decoration and themed plates and napkins are provided.
