Train Engineer - Visitor Service (Park)
Starting pay: $7.25/hour (Part Time)
Nature of Work
Effective immediately the Zoo has a requirement for a Train Engineer. The Train Engineer performs a variety of tasks related to the safe operation of the Zoo's train ride. A Train Engineer is expected to learn minor maintenance that would require inspection of the train prior to operation. The Train Engineer reports to the Supervisor of Visitor Services – Park.
Essential Functions:
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
- Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
- Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
- Take ride tickets from the public.
- Assure the train and all related equipment is kept neat and clean.
- Wash train.
- Assure rider safety by taking necessary measures to assure a train rider's behavior does not endanger themselves, zoo employees, or other train passengers.
- Assist with light maintenance including checking fluid levels, pressure gauges and making necessary adjustments.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :
- Ability to speak clearly.
- Ability to operate the train and equipment safely.
- Ability to deal with the public in a polite manner.
- Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions in English.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
- High school graduate or GED certificate.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Experience with narrow gauge trains preferred..
