ASSISTANT MANAGER – VISITOR SERVICES
Starting salary $1,384.62/biweekly

Nature of Work

Effective immediately there is an opening for an Assistant Manger in our Visitor Services Department. The Assistant Visitor Services Manager is responsible for short and long term goals of the Visitor Services Department. The Assistant Visitor Services Manager assists in directing all aspects of the Zoo’s food and merchandise operations. Fulfills the duties of the department manager in their absence. The Assistant Visitor Services Manager reports directly to the Visitor Services Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
  • Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
  • Supervise and coordinate the efficient and cost effective operation of all food services and merchandise outlets, and the Zoo's catering operation.
  • Train staff and insure the highest standard of food safety, merchandising and guest service satisfaction.
  • Assist with the preparation of the department annual budget.
  • Ensure Visitor Services Supervisors follow yearly income and expense budget.
  • Maintain constant contact with vendors to assure quality control of provisions and supplies at the most cost-effective prices.
  • Oversee quarterly and annual inventory audits.
  • Hold department meetings to assure proper communications throughout the Visitor Services staff.
  • Teach, support and inspire continuing education in the Visitor Services Department.
  • Comply and maintain all food safety regulations. 
  • Ensure merchandise and food is ordered properly and delivered from the warehouse in a timely manner.
  • Enforce Zoo’s cash handling policies.
  • Assure sufficient numbers of concession employees are available to fill requirements.
  • Assure food/beverage and merchandise outlets and registers are opened and closed at proper times.
  • Periodically read and record cash register totals and verifying against cash on hand
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

  • Knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use credit card machines and electronic cash registers. 
  • Knowledge of public health requirements as related to sanitation and food handling procedures and the ability to conduct thorough operational and sanitary inspection of each food and beverage outlet.
  • Ability to deal with employee and guest relations.
  • Ability to train and motivate employees.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, vendors and guests.
Minimum Qualifications :
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, and occasional after-hours assignments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in merchandising, food service management or related field.   Experience may be substituted.
  • Five years supervisory experience.
  • Food Service Manager certification.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Spanish fluency is highly desirable.
