Section Leader – Visitor Services (Parks)
Starting Pay: $9.60/hour

Nature of Work

Effective immediately a Parks Section Leader position is available in the Visitor Services/Food & Beverage Department. The Parks Section Leader assists in the day-to-day operation of the concession stands and warehouse. Leadership is exercised under established guidelines over concession stands and warehouse staff in conjunction with and in the absence of supervisory personnel. The Section Leader reports to the Parks and Warehouse Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
  • Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
  • Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
  • Assist in the set up of food and novelty stand for daily business.
  • Instruct Concession Clerks on the volume of food produced by the stand to ensure that the demands of the public are met.
  • Ensure daily supply orders are accurately completed for each stand.
  • Ensure the food stands are properly closed and cleaned at the end of day's business
  • Pick up and deliver banks, excess money, and change to the Cashroom in compliance with the Cash Handling Policies.
  • Work as a cashier as needed (and where needed) in conjunction with all Section leader duties.
  • Handle and account for large sums of money. Conduct random clerk audits.
  • Ensure proper food and equipment sanitation procedures are practiced daily in food stand
  • Ensure daily cash register readings are completed and accurately recorded.
  • Ensure the park and warehouse personnel are in proper uniform and in their assigned work area.
  • Assist in the training of new employees with cash handling, daily stand duties. ➢ Assist in display and merchandising of products in gift shop for optimal daily sales.
  • Ensure merchandise is available and displayed in a neat, clean and orderly condition.
  • Recommend lunch break scheduling for the parks and warehouse staff daily as related to customer demands.
  • Submit work orders for repairs needed as needed.
  • Assist the Catering Supervisor with catered events.
  • Responsible to remove, if necessary, a problem employee from their duty station until a manager or supervisor can arrive to assist with discipline
  • Read and understand Visitor Services manual.
  • Handle customer complaints, if unable to solve problem call supervisor.
  • Safely operate a forklift for unloading deliveries.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities :

  • Ability to use various types of electronic cash registers.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement cash control techniques.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to recognize and quickly perform any duties required to maintain a clean and sanitary food establishment.
  • Ability to obtain Forklift Certification.
Minimum Qualifications :
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hour assignments.
  • Two years cash register/cash-handling experience in a food service operation.
  • Successful completion of the Texas Food Protection Management Program.
  • No history of dishonesty, larceny, or theft.
